1. The service

WhoIsThis.online is a personal recognition assistant. The Android app recognizes people you have saved on your phone and, when you ask, runs an online lookup: a public reverse face search followed by research of publicly available information, delivered with sources. The service supplies context and memory support. It does not identify anyone with certainty and it makes no judgment about anyone's safety, character, or legal status.

2. Who may use it

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter this agreement. You are responsible for ensuring that your use — including recording people, processing faces, and researching individuals — is lawful where you are and where the people you record are. We make no assessment of your jurisdiction.

3. Cameras, photos, and sources

Before the app accepts any camera, glasses, photo, album, or plugin source you must accept the current camera authorization notice and attest, per source, that you are authorized to use it and accept responsibility for lawful use. Missing, revoked, or obsolete acceptance keeps a source disabled. Companion plugins from the public marketplace are independent apps; we do not monitor or restrict their network traffic, and a plugin we have not reviewed is shown to you as unverified before it connects.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to stalk, harass, intimidate, discriminate against, or endanger any person; to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance, or eligibility for benefits; to identify people at protests, places of worship, clinics, shelters, or other sensitive locations; to build your own database of people without a lawful basis; or to search for a person who has opted out. You agree not to circumvent the quality, age, or authorization safeguards, to reverse-engineer the service, or to resell lookups.

5. Results and their limits

Similarity scores are evidence of resemblance, not proof of identity. Public records, allegations, arrest records, and news are presented with their source, status, and retrieval time; they may be incomplete, outdated, or about a different person with the same name. “Nothing found” means only that our sources returned nothing at that moment. You are solely responsible for any action you take based on results.

6. Your data

Your People Library (people, face samples, labels, notes, encounters, and locally computed face templates) stays on your phone and is never uploaded by us. Online lookups send a temporary face crop or scene, which is deleted after processing, together with a signed attestation for audit. Public results returned by suppliers may be retained anonymously and shared across accounts so that the same public face does not trigger a repeated supplier search. Research about named people is not cached; it is redone from current sources on every lookup. Deleting your account revokes access, cancels active work, and purges per-account server data within 30 days, keeping only billing, dispute, minimal anti-abuse, and deletion-audit records for their required periods. Your phone's People Library is never erased remotely; the app offers a separate local erase and export.

7. Opt-out and disputes

Anyone may ask to be excluded from online lookups or dispute a result at whoisthis.online/opt-out. An accepted request stops future lookups for that face before any search runs and purges the public results we hold about that person.

8. Plans, credits, and payment

On-phone recognition is free. Online lookups use credits from a subscription, a one-time trial, or top-ups, as shown on pricing; the in-app catalog is authoritative. Payment is processed by Stripe. One credit covers one logical lookup, including its automatic recheck when eligible; a lookup blocked by an opt-out is not charged. Subscription credits reset each period and roll over only up to the plan's cap. Refunds revoke unused credits; if refunded credits were already spent, online lookups pause until the balance is positive. Trial credits are granted once per person after payment-method verification and are not restored by reinstalling or creating a new account.

9. Availability and changes

We may suspend online lookups, individual suppliers, or accounts to protect people, comply with law, or prevent abuse. We may change these terms; a new version is presented in the app and must be accepted before further use of online features. The version you accepted is always available at its own URL.

10. Disclaimer and liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties and are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for decisions you make based on results. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
