The app ships as a directly signed APK from our GitHub release channel. Every release is built from public source and signed with the same certificate, so Android verifies updates against the version you already have.

Before you install

Package: online.whoisthis.whoisthis
Android: Android 8.0 or newer, 64-bit device. Camera required for live recognition; still photos work without one.
Signing certificate: Published in the release notes of each GitHub release (SHA-256). Compare before installing an APK from anywhere else.

Supported phones

We do not lower recognition quality to fit a device. A phone is supported when its camera can deliver a native head crop of at least 200 × 200 pixels at a normal conversation distance and its processor runs the on-device models in real time. Recent Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S and A5x-and-up, and comparable devices meet this; very low-end phones may only support still photos.

Companion plugins

Glasses, doorbells, and other cameras connect through reviewed companion apps published in the public plugin marketplace. One folder per plugin, one owner-reviewed pull request, signed and published after merge. Plugins we have not reviewed are shown as unverified in the app before they connect.
